General Information

No weddings are performed between 20 December and 09 January

The documents below must be sent to the hotel six weeks prior to the wedding date as they are required by the Civil Status Office.

Clients must take the following ORIGINAL documentation with them to Mauritius:

• A photocopy of the back three pages of each passport
• A photocopy of their UNABRIDGED birth certificates (no abridged birth certificates will be accepted)
• A photocopy of Divorce or Death Certificate of ex-spouse (if any)
• Attached form requesting particulars of the wedding couple

All wedding documents must be translated into English by an official translator.

A divorced bride getting married within 10 months of the decree of divorce must take a pregnancy test in Mauritius.
If the test is positive, the civil marriage cannot be celebrated. The cost of test to be paid by the client.

At latest three days before the wedding, clients will have to go to the Registrar General Civil Status office in Port Louis.
The originals of their documents and their affidavit will be checked by an attorney at law.
Once completed, clients are granted a certificate of non residency.

Clients will then proceed to the Supreme Court to swear their affidavit. This procedure is not applicable in Seychelles.

If a matrimonial contract is in place a letter is required by their notary advising of this. The letter from the notary must be in English or French.
Legal and taxi cost are subject to fluctuation.
Apostille of Wedding Certificate:

This is a documentary device by which a government department authenticates a document as genuine, thereby legalizing it for use in another country under the terms laid out in the HAGUE CONVENTION.
Once a document has been Apostilled, thereby providing official government authentication of the signatures and stamps appearing on it, it is automatically deemed legalised for use in another member country.
The Apostille simplifies the formalities of legislation of public documents outside the countries from which clients emanate. Mauritius is one of the signatories of the above Convention and it is the Prime Minister's office which is responsible for the final authentication exercise, that is, issuing the "Apostille".

Prime Ministers office, New Government Centre, 4th Floor between 9am to 3pm.  It is to be noted that the Apostille service is FREE OF CHARGE.

Documents for legalisation (Apostille) should as far as possible be submitted in person and collected the next working day from 1pm. Clients are responsible for transportation costs and any courier service that might be necessary. These costs are not included in the cost of legal procedures as quoted above.

Clients who are South African born and resident in SA are not required to do the above, except for weddings in Seychelles.

Changes may be brought to any element of information of this document.

Renewal of Vows

No legal documentation except for a copy of the couples marriage certificate, is required for a Renewal of Vows ceremony. Clients are to please note that religious ceremonies are not possible. The Master of Ceremonies will conduct a non-religious ceremony for the couple.

No Renewal of Vows ceremonies are performed between 20 December and 09 January.
