COME SKI WITH US
10 years ago we had this great idea to try a ski holiday ... usually we ventured into classical Europe or off the beaten track to some exotic island, but that year we were adamant that we had to learn to ski. As novices we relied on the good advise of our ski operators, spent months doing wall squats to increase our strength and fitness levels and dashed off to the nearest Cape Union Mart to kit ourselves out for our 1st ski holiday!! . .
Wow, our holiday was more than we ever expected! The snow was fantastic, the resort alive and our package included just about everything we needed. My husband and I were really into skiing and soon we were able to hold our own, even though he was a little more fearless than me! The best part was, it was my hubbies first real holiday that he was able to forget about the worries of work as he was so busy concentrating on the slopes and not falling that there was NO time to think of anything else - a miracle.
Yes, we have had years when the snow is not as great as previous years but we were always able to enjoy the trip especially as the resorts we traveled to either had snow guarantees thanks to nearby glaciers or snow machines We learned to ski red, blue and black slopes, moguls and even enjoy night runs after a fabulous night in an alpine restaurant.
So now 4 years after our last trip and 2 additions to our family... the ITCH is back. We can't wait to get back on the slopes and this time watch our little angles head down the slopes ahead of their cautious and rather slower parents. The dates have been set and all we need to do is choose our resort ... a difficult decision at that (not for the lack of kid friendly resorts but for the over supply thanks to Club Med).
All we want is a kid friendly resort that offers a kiddies club and ski school and most importantly a resort that is TRULY all-inclusive.
So where are we going .... Um, I can't decide between Wengen or Avoriaz, but what I can tell you, it would not be with anyone else but CLUB MED.
Three Tips: • Opt for a ski-in, ski-out resort • Make sure it's all-inclusive (that means it includes ski passes, hire, school and yip all meals and preferably your drinks too) • Ensure that there is a selection of runs (blue, red and black) and at least 100km of them. If you are an intermediate skier, 300km + would be good
